Chihuahuas are Bold and Affectionate
Chihuahuas are small dogs with huge personalities. They are affectionate, energetic, and playful, always willing to see new things and go on adventures. This makes them quite brave for such small dogs. They are loyal and intelligent, but must be trained and socialized early on, as they can be difficult to housebreak.
Chihuahuas may suffer from Small Dog Syndrome, in which they try to establish dominance despite their size. Because of this, it is important that the owner establishes his own dominance early in the relationship.
The Chihuahua is not recommended for children, not only because it is delicate, but also because it should not be babied and treated differently from a dog of any other size. If not trained properly, a Chihuahua can become aggressive towards unfamiliar persons.
Small Size, Same Exercise
Chihuahuas require just as much walking as a larger dog. This is because walks are not just for exercise; as mentioned earlier, Chihuahuas are adventurous and need the mental stimulation that all dogs get from going on walks.
Chihuahuas are suited for apartment life simply because of their size, as long as they get walked and exercised enough. However, they do need enough space to run around, as any dog does.

These dogs have a smooth coat which only need gentle brushing or wiping on occasion. The long-haired version requires daily brushing with a soft bristle brush. Both types of Chihuahuas require monthly baths and need their ears checked and nails trimmed regularly.
Chihuahua Health Care
Chihuahuas are prone to several health problems, including rheumatism, slipped stifle, colds, and gum problems. Because of their “bug eyes,” they are also prone to corneal dryness and secondary glaucoma. Their delicate bodies make them prone to injury more easily than bigger breeds, especially during puppyhood, when their bones are more fragile.
Small dogs often live a long time, and the Chihuahua is no exception. It has a lifespan of up to fifteen years or more.
Chihuahuas Make Great Companions
The Chihuahua breed is a good type of dog for those who are willing to put time into training, mentally stimulating, and exercising their pet. It is not perfect for everyone’s lifestyle, but those who choose to get a Chihuahua will surely be rewarded by a bold little friend.
